News from Icon Studio Production

David C. Smith, producer at Icon Studio Productions and Icon client Nick Cardilino
were recently informed that the song, co-written, produced at Icon and chosen for the 2007 NCYC theme song, “Discover the Way”, has been selected for inclusion in OCP/SpiritandSong’s “The Commons: By Request” compilation CD. It will be published through SpiritandSong and featured alongside songs from other well known Catholic artists such as Matt Maher, Sarah Hart, Jesse Manibusan, Curtis Stephan and others.

Nick will be flown to out to be filmed performing an acoustic version of the song to be shown on the OCP/Spirit and Song website.

More info about The Commons can be found here:

Nick and Dave also collaborated on the contest entry for the 2009 National Catholic Youth Conference theme song contest. The theme this year is “Christ Reigns”. The deadline for this contest was much sooner than anticipated! Fortunately, Nick was paying attention and the two met up in Anderson, Indiana for a 2-3 hour writing session, in which the song “Christ Reigns” was written. Dave employed the talents of Catholic artist Sean Clive for the lead vocal and the song was produced by Dave at Icon. Two versions were produced, which can be heard at the Icon website: http://myspace.com/iconmusicstudio

A very good friend and trusted source has informed David 25+ entries were submitted and that email notifications have already been sent out by NCYC to all songwriters that did not make the top final 4.

So far, Nick and Dave have received no such notification. No news is good news in this case.

Notification of the winner is scheduled for sometime before August 29th.

Also, this year, projects have been completed for Gerard Faucheux, Paul Hilts, Dan Duet. . . and projects are scheduled or are in the works for Nancy Krebs, Sean Clive, Billie Tarascio, Susan Bailey and Kitty Cleveland.

Finally, David and his wife Teresa will be welcoming their new baby boy and 7th child, Sammy, in late August 2008.

If you are planning to have a CD produced in late 2008 or 2009, don’t hesitate to contact David at Icon now to reserve your time and get things happening.

  1. If you are considering a recording project, I STRONGLY recommend contacting David Smith. I had a great time on my trip to Fort Wayne, Indiana back in February for my first project “How Can You Think of Me?”. Besides listening on the Catholic Jukebox, you can hear the results at http://gfsongs.com. Songs from the album have also been included on Catholic Music Express podcasts http://catholicmusicexpress.com. Also, an interview by Lisa Hendey will be included in a soon-to-be-released episode of the Catholic Moments podcast.

BTW, one song on the album, “Let’s Work Together” was written days after Hurricane Katrina knocked out our power.
