The Goal of CatholicJukebox.com
CatholicJukebox.com brings people closer to Jesus Christ through music that is faithful
to the teachings of the Catholic Church. As a hub for Contemporary Catholic Music,
CatholicJukeBox.com provides musicians with a presence on the web. Through CatholicJukebox.com,
the music and their message of faithful Catholic artists reaches larger audiences
via our searchable database, radio services, streaming online audio, and downloadable
podcasts.
History of CatholicJukebox.com
In the mid 90's Mark Muretisch maintained a list of Catholic musician names on the
Internet. With the help of Susan Bailey, that list became the Contemporary Catholic
Artist Network (CCAN). Joining the list in 1997, George Leite decided that the list
needed links to sound files so interested people could hear examples. Using the
technology available, George created song examples using RealĀ® audio files. George
created CatholicJukebox.com from this new list in cooperation with CCAN. A year
later, the CCAN list was incorporated into CatholicJukebox.com. The website changed
to be database driven with over 100 names. Needing to expand how music was delivered,
in January of 2000, CatholicJukebox.com began broadcasting via a Live365.com radio
station. Broadcasting in AM quality sound, this allowed Catholic music to be heard
24/7 on the Internet. With the advent of podcasting, CatholicJukebox.com began The
Catholic Rockers podcast in November of 2005. Now in 2007, there are over 700 entries
in the directory, radio listeners have totaled over 37,000 hours of listening, and
podcast listeners have downloaded over 45,000 shows.
